Patent Pro Bono Opportunity for Patent Prosecution Attorneys & Patent Agents – Feb. 27, 2018

Join fellow members of the State and Atlanta Bar IP Sections for a fun, simple, and no-continuing-obligation pro bono opportunity on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Georgia Lawyers for the Arts/Georgia PATENTS’s Intake Clinic for low-income inventors. You can give 1 or 2 hours, at your choice, and you will be able to review materials in advance of the meeting.

The PATENTS Intake Clinic will be held at GLA’s King Plow Arts Center office on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 2 – 4 p.m. Two to three patent attorneys and/or patent agents will be assigned to each client and will conduct a one-hour meeting. Prior to the Clinic, Georgia PATENTS staff will provide all volunteer attorneys with information to conduct a conflicts search as well as an easy to follow checklist/guide to use to during the client meeting. The purposes of the Intake Clinic are: to ensure the clients qualify for the Georgia PATENTS Program, answer any general patent questions, explore any issues identified – obviousness, novelty, disclosure, not patent eligible, not reduced to practice – and to give direction on the prior art search, if inadequate. Clients can be assigned ”homework” they need to do before they are ready to be placed with an attorney or can be given the thumbs-up for placing with an attorney. This will be a quick, easy, and gratifying way to satisfy some pro bono hours! You are not committed to any follow-up after the clinic nor are you committed to represent the client going forward.

We encourage you to bring along your mentor or mentee for a collaborative pro bono afternoon!

Please email Chris Lightner at chris.lightner@alston.com and/or Kelly Bray at kellybray@glarts.org (subject: Patents: Feb. 27) to volunteer and let us know the amount of time you can give (and specific time-slots, if necessary). Once we have volunteers and GLA coordinates inventor-attendees, we will assign cases to each group of lawyers/patent agents.

In order to assist in the scheduling, we ask that you let us know ASAP if you want to participate in this fabulous opportunity.
